Hudson Community H.R. 1: Informational Roundtable

On Tuesday, July 21, the New Jersey Reentry Corporation hosted its H.R. 1 Know Your Rights Community Roundtable at the Governor's Reentry Training and Employment Center in Kearny. The event brought together elected officials, community organizations, healthcare providers, legal advocates, faith leaders, county representatives, veterans' organizations, and residents to discuss the upcoming implementation of H.R. 1 and its impact on SNAP and Medicaid eligibility.

The roundtable featured presentations and panel discussions on the new work and community engagement requirements, eligibility standards, exemptions, documentation and verification requirements, workforce training opportunities, and strategies to help individuals maintain access to essential food assistance and healthcare benefits.

We were honored to welcome Senator Raj Mukherji for opening remarks and to hear from Deputy Commissioner Valerie Mielke of the New Jersey Department of Human Services, Frank Mazza of the Hudson County Department of Family Services, and Iris Cooney of the Community Networking Association of New Jersey.

The discussion emphasized the importance of early education, coordinated community partnerships, and accurate documentation to ensure eligible New Jersey residents do not lose access to critical benefits as the new federal requirements take effect.
