NJRC Partners with Port Authority to Expand Second-Chance Hiring at Newark Airport
New employment pipeline connects formerly incarcerated individuals with airport jobs and workforce opportunities.

The New Jersey Reentry Corporation (NJRC) was recently featured in the New Jersey Globe for its partnership with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and the Council for Airport Opportunity to expand second-chance employment opportunities at Newark Liberty International Airport.
The initiative creates a direct employment pipeline for qualified individuals who are returning to their communities after incarceration, connecting them with opportunities in areas including warehouse operations, forklift operations, food service, baggage handling, logistics, and snow removal.
Through the partnership, participants can receive workforce training, digital readiness support, credentialing, and assistance obtaining the documentation needed to pursue employment opportunities.
The initiative also comes as new federal work and community-engagement requirements take effect, making workforce development and job placement increasingly important for individuals who rely on programs such as Medicaid and SNAP.
“For many individuals, employment is no longer simply about earning a paycheck,” said James E. McGreevey, Executive Director of the New Jersey Reentry Corporation. “It is about maintaining health coverage, preserving access to food assistance, supporting one’s family, and building a productive future.”
McGreevey also recognized Port Authority Chairman Kevin O’Toole, the Port Authority’s Office of Second Chance Employment, and the Council for Airport Opportunity for their leadership in creating a direct pathway from training and credentialing to employment at Newark Airport.
“This is about giving people a genuine opportunity to work, support their families, and build productive futures while helping employers fill critical positions,” McGreevey said.
The Newark Airport initiative reflects NJRC’s continued commitment to connecting individuals with meaningful employment, industry-recognized credentials, and opportunities for long-term career development. By working with employers and public agencies, NJRC helps remove barriers to employment while supporting businesses in meeting critical workforce needs.
Since its founding, NJRC has helped place more than 14,200 participants into jobs and awarded more than 10,000 industry-recognized credentials, while maintaining a verified three-year recidivism rate of 14.01%.
